Mary Magdalene inspired me because she represents a woman whose story has been interpreted, judged, and transformed throughout history, yet she remains a symbol of devotion, strength, and spiritual depth.

When I began this painting, I imagined her surrounded by glitter, glass beads, and rich color. But as she emerged, I realized that simplicity felt more truthful. She was not a woman of material wealth, so I allowed her beauty to come through without excess.

Her face is created with mixed-media collage, combining fabric and paint. I chose red as a powerful presence—red roses, warmth, passion, love, and devotion. The gold background gives her a sacred, almost iconic quality, while her decorated eyes suggest a woman who sees beyond the surface.

I hope viewers see not the Mary Magdalene they have been told about, but a woman of strength, mystery, love, and quiet power.
